When it comes to the day of the wedding, the bride gets all the attention…she starts early in the morning getting ready for her big day. From a family breakfast or brunch, spa treatments, hair and makeup appointments, to last minute preparations, her friends and family surround her with care and attention. Although the bride will always take center stage, the groom is the other half of the special day and he can have his own special pre-wedding traditions as well; something to take up 3 to 4 hours while the ladies are prepping and getting ready. With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of fun activities grooms and their ushers can enjoy.
Golf…
A morning on the links is a classic pre-wedding activity. If the groom is looking for a relaxing way to spend a few hours with his closest friends, golf is a great option.
Barber Shop…
While the bride and her bridesmaids treat themselves to a morning of pampering, the groom and his ushers can do the same at a barbershop. We’ve heard getting a professional shave is a special treat. He can even invite the photographer and get some great pictures of the men in prime pampering-mode.
Paintball / Laser Tag…
Paintball is a great way to create a bonding experience, which can also make for some great photo opportunities. But if we’re dealing with a competitive bunch, laser tag might be a better alternative (no bruising).
Fishing…
For the angler, a few hours of fishing and relaxing with his buddies is the best way to start the wedding day. Just make sure he wears sunscreen.
Tandem Skydiving…
This might be a little extreme, but it’s certainly thrilling! If the groom has mentioned skydiving before, this is a great opportunity.
Brewery Tour…
Organize this at your own risk, but for beer enthusiasts this is a great experience. Most big cities have microbreweries that offer tours and tastings, and many even offer private rooms and catering. (But this may be a better idea for a bachelor party.)
Scavenger Hunts…
Scavenger hunts aren’t just for kids! Create a fun scavenger hunt for the group based on inside jokes and anecdotes. It can be as involved or laid back as you’d like. Your scavenger hunt can lead the guys all over the city, or keep them close to home.
These are just a few ideas for how your soon-to-be hubby and his friends can enjoy themselves the day of your wedding. Other ideas include a video game or poker tournament, a sporting event and biking. It all comes down to the men’s interests, budget and desired level of activity for the day.
