What To Wear To Your Rehearsal Dinner

When I came home to finish up wedding planning over my final college spring break, I walked into my room to find a handful of new hung up in my closet. My mom had purchased outfits for all of my wedding week activities (showers, bachelorette party, bridesmaids’ brunch, rehearsal dinner, etc.) and I was overjoyed! She knew my style and she knew it was something she could take off my plate for the wedding planning process. I would look and feel fabulous and I wouldn’t have to stress about it.

As you start looking toward your big day, keep in mind all the events along the way. As you check items off your list, don’t forget to add a shopping trip for a few new outfits.

Before you start looking for your (and your groom’s) rehearsal attire, know the details of the rehearsal. Will it be a fancy soiree at a big restaurant? Or will it be an intimate gathering in a home? Will it be an outside barbecue or a casual indoor event at your wedding venue?

For the Bride:

As the bride, you have a few options for your rehearsal dinner look. Choose a classic white dress or branch out to match your wedding day colors. Go for your usual style or pick one that’s reminiscent of a wedding dress you almost chose for the big day. We have a few looks we love for all types of rehearsals.

If you’re a non-traditional bride, we can’t recommend this jumpsuit enough! You’ll be the talk of the town and life of the party when you walk in wearing this fun number by Adrianna Papell. It will look great at a rehearsal dinner at your favorite trendy restaurant.

This lace Free People dress is the perfect pick for the boho bride with an outdoor rehearsal dinner. Slip on your favorite sandals or wedges and you’re ready for a memorable evening!

A wrap dress works great from day to evening, making it the best piece for a semi-formal or dressy casual rehearsal dinner. This blush pink one by Betsey Johnson is feminine and flirty and will definitely turn heads.

Nothing says “bridal” like white lace. If your wedding dress is lacking in the lace department, add this Ralph Lauren dress to your wedding week lineup and revel in the bridal glow.

For the chic and stylish bride, an off the shoulder dress is a must. This Calvin Klein one has classic lines and will blend well for any rehearsal location.

Looking for a dress that makes a statement and matches your neutral wedding color palette? We love this cape dress by Xscape with the beaded neckline. Add a pair of earrings and you’re ready for a more formal rehearsal evening.

And the Groom:

As the groom, follow the lead of your lady. Match her level of fancy or casual. Don’t be afraid to buy something new for the occasion–and lucky for you, we’ve already rounded up a few favorites that can be bought with a simple click!

In my humble opinion, a light-colored sport coat is always a good investment. It has the level of class a sport coat always does, but the color keeps it a little more casual. Plus, it will look great standing next to your bride’s new white dress. (Okay with walking on the wild side? This coat also comes in red, pink and off-white.)

No matter where your rehearsal is taking place, a bomber jacket is always a good idea. This chambray one by Tommy Hilfiger has just enough detail to be interesting and look great on anyone!

If your rehearsal will be a casual affair, you will look great in these light colored polos by Ralph Lauren. You’ll stand out among your crew, but still be comfortable when paired with shorts and boat shoes or leather flip flops.

We love the Macy’s men’s brand, Bar III, because they set the bar high when it comes to trendy men’s apparel. Their button downs aren’t stuffy or too baggy. Their patterns are fresh and fun and their shirts come in almost every shade of every color. Check out this slim-fit stretch shirt –with or without the pattern!

For a winter rehearsal, a classic cardigan is the way to go. This one by Weatherproof comes in the perfect winter white as well as navy, so it’s sure to match whichever dress your bride choose and wherever your rehearsal takes place. Add a button down underneath for a fancier occasion or pair with a simple henley t-shirt and jeans for a more casual night.

Macy’s has you covered for your rehearsal dinner…and every other wedding event. You can even have your very own personal shopper help you select your rehearsal dinner attire!
