Gift registries and online shopping have made purchasing wedding gifts easier than ever, but some guests (and couples!) still prefer cash. What’s the best way to send the money?
Dear Cheryl,
Is it permissible to include money in the wedding card on the day of the ceremony? I’d like to contribute toward the honeymoon fund but prefer to do so via a wedding card with cash on the day of the wedding instead of giving it online to the honeymoon registry.
Jackie
Hi Jackie,
From an etiquette perspective, it’s perfectly acceptable to give cash to a couple on their wedding day, especially if it’s thoughtfully included in a congratulatory card. A wedding registry is simply a helpful guide for guests, and not a requirement.
It’s also okay to give a gift on the wedding day. However, I’d recommend sending your card and gift ahead of time, if possible. This allows the couple to plan for the honeymoon with a better understanding of their budget.
There’s also a practical concern: cards and cash given at the event can easily get misplaced in the flurry of wedding activities. If you do choose to give your gift at the wedding, I strongly recommend a check instead of cash, as it’s safer and can be canceled if necessary.

I can not find anything on Caroline Healey & Tim Nyugen’s wedding registry ( wedding is July 7,2023). Does this mean everything on the registry has been purchased?
Cheryl Seidel
Hi Maureen,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. It doesn’t look like the couple ever added any items to their Crate&Barrel registry.
However, I did find an Amazon registry for the couple under the names Tim Nguyen & Carrie Healey – https://amzn.to/44IOLkF. Or you can check their wedding website on TheKnot for additional options: https://www.theknot.com/us/caroline-healey-and-timothy-nguyen-jul-2023/registry
