Simple and sweet messages to share with parents-to-be!
We all love celebrating the arrival of a new baby. Shopping for tiny outfits, cute gear, and cuddly toys is always fun, but there’s still an important element to baby gift-giving: writing the card!
If you’re facing some writer’s block, you’ve come to the right blog post. I’ve got you covered with a card-writing formula that will work for any new mom and baby!
Try this Simple Formula for any baby gift:
Congratulations/Anticipation + Gift Mention + Wishes for the Future
First, decide who you’d like to be your audience for the card. Some baby shower guests choose to address the card to the new mom, but if you are giving a gift that the baby will “use” (a stuffed animal, bath toys, blanket, or pajamas), you can write a cute message addressed to the little one on the way.
Baby Shower Messages Addressed to the Baby:
If you know the baby’s name, use it! If not, try something like:
“Dear Little One,” or “Sweet Baby [insert last name]”
Then add a message that expresses your love and anticipation for their arrival.
- We are counting down to your arrival!
- We can’t wait to meet you!
- You have the BEST [mommy, daddy, family] in the whole wide world!
- You are already so very loved!
- We look forward to welcoming you with joy and lots of snuggles!
Add a line that references your gift:
- I hope you give your parents many hours of sleep swaddled in this blanket!
- I hope you love splashing around in your new tub!
- This was one of our favorite baby items, and I hope you love it too!
Close with a wish for the future:
- I can’t wait to watch you grow!
- May you always know how loved you are.
- I can’t wait to spoil you with lots of new outfits and toys in the future!
- I can’t wait to hold you and give you lots of snuggles!
Baby Shower Messages Addressed to the Mom-to-Be
Express your love and anticipation for baby’s arrival:
- I can’t wait to meet [insert baby’s name, last name, or something generic like ‘your little one on the way].
- We are counting down the days to your little one’s arrival!
- Wishing you all the best as you prepare for baby!
- Can’t wait to see you step into your new role as ‘mom!’
Add a line that references your gift:
- Hope baby loves splashing around during bath time!
- Hope this gift helps you all get lots of sleep!
- Wishing you many cuddles and sweet snuggles!
- Our kids loved this [toy, story, item], and we hope your little one loves it too!
- I hope this toy brings lots of laughter and sweet smiles!
Close with a wish for the future:
- May you always know how loved and supported you are!
- You are going to be an incredible mom!
- Know that I’m always here to support you in your motherhood journey!
An optional, meaningful touch: Add a piece of parenting advice!
Keep your advice simple and light. While experienced moms know parenthood involves sleepless nights and challenging moments, the baby shower card isn’t the place to issue dire warnings or anxiety-inducing predictions about labor, delivery, or the newborn stage!
“Bring a Book Instead of a Card”
If you’ve been asked to give a baby book in lieu of a card, first of all: you don’t have to. While it’s a cute way for moms-to-be to build a new library of books, it is an added expense, and you can choose to dedicate your entire budget to the gift instead of splitting it amongst the book and gift.
If you do purchase a book instead of a card, write a short and sweet message addressed to the baby inside the front cover. If you choose a popular book and are concerned about duplicates, consider writing your message on a piece of cardstock the recipient can use as a bookmark!
Baby Book Message Ideas:
Dear little one/baby/[insert name],
- Wishing you lots of story time snuggles in the months and years ahead!
- May you always love cuddling up with a good book!
- May you always know how loved you are!
- This has always been one of my favorite stories, and I hope you love it too!
When it comes to baby shower cards, don’t stress!
Most moms-to-be don’t save them, anyway! All you need to do is express your love, support, and anticipation!
